About Us
The Crunch Philosophy
There are no judgments here - No too much or not enough, no glares of disapproval. Here we keep open minds. We are nurturers. We seek only to encourage, empower and entertain. There is no one type. There is no one reason. There is no one way. What we are is a diverse community; what we have is a culture of fun; what there is, is room for everyone: all kinds of people with all kinds of goals who've chosen to reach them with us.
Crunch. No Judgments.
History
When Crunch opened the doors to its first aerobics studio in New York City in 1989, it wasn’t fancy just a tiny spot on St. Mark’s Place in Manhattan’s East Village.
The basement studio had faulty air conditioning, no locker room and was frequently broken into after hours. Yet what this funky little spot lacked, it made up for with a little spunk and some new ideas: that exercise could be more than just the same sweaty grind and fitness could be more than bulging biceps and flat bellies.
So with the help of some creative instructors, Crunch welcomed its clients with innovative programming never before seen in a gym. Programming included everything from “Hip Hop Aerobics” with a live rapper, to Co-Ed Action Wrestling, to “Cycled” yoga cycling. The group fitness instructors were not only experts, but also showmen, drag queens, rappers, dancers, actors and professional athletes.
Soon word circulated about Crunch’s innovative classes and people came. Men and women, young and old, thin people and not-so-thin people. Now we’ve grown from the aerobics studio with no air-conditioning to 32 state-of-the-art gyms in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Atlanta with a brand that includes a host of Crunch products designed to serve an active audience.
